Woman of the Day!

August 11, 2011

This morning I took my two-year old daughter for a routine specialist appointment.  The waiting room was cramped, but eventually a seat freed up beside a woman with two small boys.  As time went on, we began to talk and here is her story…

It was December, four years ago, and she was 7 months pregnant with her first child.  She knew there were complications and was taking medication to help her baby’s lungs development. On December 18 of that year, her Mother passed away.  Anyone who has children knows how important it is to have your parents around for support and also to share in the excitement of your new child.  I am sure this was a devastating blow to this lady to lose her Mother.

On December 28, this lady gave birth to her little boy…at 32 weeks.  The baby was only 2 pounds.  For someone who has now had two babies, both over 8 pounds, I can’t even imagine how tiny a 2 pound baby is.  Miraculously, this little boy didn’t need to be hooked up to tubes.  She described him as a “fighter from the start.”  I truly believe this baby was her holiday miracle.

Since that time, she said he and her other baby boy (who also came early) have had health problems.  Despite all of this, her boys are wonderful and happy.  And this woman has the most positive energy and enthusiasm.

After leaving the doctor’s office this morning (and our daughter received another good checkup!), I felt a deep sense of admiration for this woman.  As I have been busy working away on my business and rushing around to care for my daughters, it was a reminder to me to celebrate and cherish the most important things in life.

I believe that people are put in our paths for a reason…and I am so thankful that I met this inspirational woman today!
