Retirement can be a scarey prospect for many retirees

I was reading an article from USA Today entitled ‘Job, retirement, financial toll takes toll on baby boomers ‘ that really hit home for me as a coach who works with retirees to help them discover what’s next for them after their careers.

Unfortunately, we are in the midst of hard economic times where financial stresses make the thought of retiring for many a scarey prospect, not the freedom 55 we have all dreamed of! 

But with that being said, finances are only one part of retirement.  The retirees I work with are surprised that you can do a lot more with less. Money doesn’t buy happiness!  But there can also be some challenges…take a read of the article…

When stocks go on a roller coaster ride, baby boomers gasp. They have less time before retirement for their investments to recover.

Many in the baby boomer generation had planned on retiring by now. But in this poor economy, they are struggling to deal with a ton of anxiety about their financial well-being, says Tamara McClintock Greenberg, associate professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco.

“I’ve got patients who are checking the stock market several times a day, they’re so worried,” Greenberg says. “There’s a lot of worrying.” Read more
